On May 15, 2026, investigative journalist Jane Maxwell discovered that her likeness had been used to create non-consensual explicit deepfake videos through a publicly available generative AI tool developed by Mark Allen and his company, NeuralSync AI Corp. The synthetic videos spread rapidly across social media, causing severe reputational damage, emotional distress, and professional harm. Maxwell filed a civil lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging defamation per se, intrusion upon seclusion, and negligence.
