The Scale of Preemption

In the Federal Republic of Columbia, a shadow organization known as The Scale begins executing individuals flagged by a leaked algorithmic risk assessment as having "criminal propensity." When Ethan Cross, a reformed non-violent offender, receives a death notice on the same day the Supreme Court hears a landmark challenge to predictive punishment, the safe boundaries of his everyday life collapse. As the nation applauds the purge of potential criminals, Ethan must navigate a society where innocence is no longer a fact but a statistical probability, and every neighbor could be an executioner.
