Novel Summary
In the fictional East Sea city of Shin-Yokohama, seven strangers receive identical black envelopes inviting them to a remote island villa to witness a "new trial" for a 20-year-old murder that tore the region apart—the killing of a Joseon-jok (ethnic Korean) shopkeeper by a Japanese schoolboy, a case that ended with a questionable acquittal. Trapped by a violent typhoon, the guests begin to die one by one in ways that mirror the original crime. As survivor numbers dwindle, it becomes clear that everyone present carries a hidden guilt from that day, and that someone is staging a retrial where the only sentence is death. Louise Jensen’s signature psychological suspense weaves a closed-circle nightmare where vengeance feels like justice, but only deepens the wound.
