Embers Over Still Water

In the decaying port of Grayhaven, Caleb Armitage watches his civil suit against Azure Deep Fishing Co. evaporate in a federal courtroom. The judge rules that without an expert witness to medically corroborate his tale of enslavement and torture aboard the factory ship Sea Shrike, the case is dismissed. Haunted by the men he left behind, Armitage burns his legal papers and buys a false identity card. He ships out again on the same vessel, not to flee, but to ignite a mutiny. Yet the slow-burning fuse of revenge takes years, and when the flames finally engulf the Sea Shrike, the man who started them is already a hollow shell. The sea claims its justice, but leaves nothing on the shore from which a new life can be built.
