Novel Summary
In the rainy port city of Thornwall, Novara, the official suicide of an inmate at Ironwood Correctional Facility triggers a legal storm. Attorney Harriet Morrow, hired by the widow, soon realizes that Edgar Vance was silenced because he knew the monstrous secret of Lord Augustus Blackwood—a beloved philanthropist and former prison warden. As Morrow digs deeper in the tradition of Tianxia Bachang’s layered, atmospheric suspense, she discovers that Blackwood has been methodically killing every witness to his brutal past to safeguard his flawless reputation. The story weaves through cursed jail cells, hidden diaries, and a courtroom where the dead finally speak, questioning whether a society that refuses to settle accounts with the dead can ever be just.
