Pale Imitation

In a fictional coastal city of Kitami, Japan, a destitute caregiver named Ryōichi kills and assumes the identity of a wealthy merchant, Takeda, who had been broken by a decade of caring for his bedridden wife. Under the weight of perfect technical mimicry—fingerprints, vocal patterns, digital traces—Ryōichi slowly becomes Takeda. Yet the more flawless his mask, the more he confronts the hollowness of his motive: not ambition or revenge, but a primal, inexplicable void.
