Novel Summary
In modern Shanghai, a female detective obsessed with historical injustices discovers a serial killer who recreates ancient Chinese torture as avant-garde performance. The murderer, a demented artist, believes that only through extreme suffering can one produce ultimate truth—just as the infamous interrogator Man Chong once did. As the detective descends into the killer’s dark aesthetics, her relentless pursuit of justice twists into a pathological fixation that blurs the line between hunter and prey, culminating in a final “masterpiece” designed to consume them both along with the world’s illusions of morality.
