Embers of Valdoria

In the rust-belt town of Ironvale, aging ex-soldier Elias Voss learns that his wartime command—a 1973 massacre of civilians in the disputed territory of Valdoria—has been unearthed by a journalist. The sole survivor, now a dying historian, has identified him. As federal prosecutors revive a cold-case war-crimes statute, Voss must decide whether to flee, silence the witness, or finally confess. Meanwhile, the survivor’s granddaughter, a public defender, finds herself caught between justice and the man who once saved her father’s life.
