Minorities Rights Organization v. CBI (CAA Implementation)

In 2025, the Minorities Rights Organization petitioned the Supreme Court of India against the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Union government, challenging the on-ground implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The plea alleged that while processing citizenship applications from non-Muslim refugees under the 2024 CAA Rules, CBI officers systematically engaged in religious profiling, disproportionately scrutinized and harassed Muslim applicants, and conducted intrusive verification procedures amounting to discrimination. The petitioner argued that such conduct violated the fundamental rights to equality (Article 14) and dignity (Article 21), and sought a judicial directive to halt the allegedly biased verification process.
