The Gilded Ring

In the Duchy of Oberstein, dockworker Edmund Graves enters the illegal noble boxing club “The Gilded Ring” to pay for his sister’s lung disease treatment. After a severe spinal injury, he seeks a disability pension from the State Labor Relief Bureau, only to be declared a malingerer by the very physicians who once wagered on his collapse. As his appeal reaches the High Court, he discovers that the presiding judge is the same aristocrat who bet on his permanent incapacitation. In the spirit of Stendhal, every medical report and groan of pain becomes a battlefield where evidence speaks clearly, yet the silk‑gloved interpreters twist every syllable to shield the bloody entertainment of the powerful.
