Novel Summary
In the grimy borderland between legacy crime and corporate ambition, Nico Marchetti inherits his father's empire and gambles it all on a single, respectable venture: Titan Property Group, a sprawling rental portfolio designed to launder blood money into brick and mortar. But when a Black tenant demands repairs in a neglected building, the ensuing discrimination lawsuit becomes the fulcrum on which Nico's world tilts. Unbeknownst to him, that tenant is the widow of a man his father murdered thirty years earlier—and she has been waiting. Caught between old-guard capos who see legitimate business as a betrayal and a federal prosecutor who sees Titan as a racketeering enterprise, Nico discovers that the law is a gun that shoots both ways. James M. Cain would have called it an everyday tragedy: a story of double-cross, decaying walls, and the lead-pipe certainty that every debt comes due.
