Novel Summary
In the bleak winter of 1997, prosecutor Malcolm Vane secured a death sentence against factory foreman Edwin Croft for a fire that killed three executives. Years later, the real arsonist confesses on his deathbed. Vane, now a disgraced magistrate, cannot outrun the living ghost of Croft—nor the silent blackmail of his own conscience. As he systematically dismantles the very legal machinery he once served, he discovers that the most inescapable prison is not the cell, but the promise of justice he swore to uphold.
